Our Committee
Our team consists of highly qualified and motivated professionals, who are all experts in their field. With many years of experience in architecture and education, they have the expertise to provide comprehensive and broad perspectives to our work.
Wendy Colvin
Chair
Wendy Colvin has been the Programme Leader for the Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Practice and Management in Architecture at the University of the West of England since she developed and launched the course in October 2007. She has also held posts at University College London and the University of Portsmouth, and is a considerably experienced architecture examiner. Wendy has been an active member of APSA for over 20 years and involved in numerous cross-organisation activities with RIBA, ARB and SCOSA. Earlier in her career, Wendy worked for architectural and multi-disciplinary firms in the UK, Germany and USA.
Carl Meddings
Vice-Chair
Carl is the Programme Leader for the M.Arch in Sustainable Architecture (Part 2) at the Centre for Alternative Technology. He has taught at several architectural schools at all levels from pre-first-year undergrad to final year at masters level and beyond. He is passionate about the education of architects in our rapidly changing cultural and professional environments.
Alastair Blyth
Secretary
Alastair is an architect with a specific research interest in learning environments and professional practice in architecture. He is Assistant Head of School, School of Architecture and Cities and Co-course Leader for Professional Practice Architecture, the RIBA Part post-graduate programme all at the University of Westminster. Before joining the University of Westminster he was an analyst at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), in the Directorate for Education and Skills where his work focused on policy advice for governments on the design, procurement and evaluation of learning environments.
Stephen McCusker
Treasurer
Stephen McCusker is Professional Skills Lead at the Manchester School of Architecture.
He maintains this role part-time, alongside his ongoing, external practise as an Architect-Director where he delivers value-led and community-centric projects, formerly at Loop Systems co-operative until it became part of the Place Capital Group in 2021 where it continues to contribute to works of social value across the UK.
He has been a board member at the ARB since 2019 and is an experienced ARB prescribed examiner, Part 3 examiner, year leader and teacher of Architecture & Design Thinking, Stephen continues to bringing his professional, academic and leadership expertise to the role; building on his knowledge of a broad range of project types ranging from furniture to museums and responsible material selection.
John Edmonds
Committee Member
John is a chartered architect with over 35 years’ experience, having roots within both academia and commercial private practice. Previous roles have been as a BRE Research Fellow and partner/director within private practice, and currently he is Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham and Professional Studies Advisor at Part 3. Direct links with the profession have been maintained with the ARB as a former Prescribed Examiner, and with the RIBA at national level with former committee membership of education panels and former chair of the RIBA Professional Education Steering Group. Previous and current appointments as external examiner or professional examiner are held within Universities and Schools of Architecture at Bath, Cambridge, Cardiff, DMU Leicester, Leeds, Lincoln, Newcastle, Oxford Brookes, Portsmouth, Westminster, UWE Bristol, ARC-ex Belfast and Malaga.
Martina Murphy
Committee Member
Dr Martina Murphy has been a Lecturer at the University of Ulster's School of the Built Environment since 2010. Martina is a Chartered Architect who spent 14 years in practice in the UK and Hong Kong working on a range of projects from regional commercial projects to large-scale infrastructure. Subsequently, she obtained a doctorate from the Ulster University (2004) on the implementation of design innovations in the construction procurement process and produced the Innovation Management Model (IMM). She has had roles on advisory, Public and charity boards, including Royal Society of Ulster Architects (RSUA) for 10 years.
Tony Clelford
SCHOSA Liaison
Tony Clelford is an architect, writer and coach with many years of experience in academia and in architectural practice in both London and regional offices. Tony is currently Head of Design Practice in the School of Design at the University of Greenwich. He also acts as an examiner for ARB’s examination and has previously served as an independent adviser to ARB’s Prescription Committee. He is also a lecturer or examiner for several British universities. He has been a creativity consultant and tutor to various universities institutions including the Design Council and was involved in the development of the MA in Architectural Management at Nottingham University. He has been a member of several ARB and RIBA working groups and has served as Chair and Secretary of the Association for Professional Studies in Architecture (APSA).

Andrew Marshall
Co-opted 2023
Andrew Marshall is a chartered architect and Principal Lecturer / Professional Studies Advisor at the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture & Built Environment, RGU. He holds a Masters in Construction Law and worked most recently in practice as an architect and assistant expert witness in a small, specialist practice in Glasgow. Andrew has taught Professional Studies in a number of universities in Scotland and is a question setter for the APEAS Part III Exam. He is also an examiner and UK Adaption assessor for the Architects Registration Board.
